Summary:
The Senior Laboratory Technician utilizes quantitative and qualitative techniques to analyze laboratory fluid or tissue samples, operates and cares for laboratory equipment; maintains laboratory supplies and related inventory and prepares standard media, cultures, reagents, stains and solutions. The Senior Laboratory technician also prepares standard media, cultures, participates in and performs assigned phases of scientific research projects, tracks, stores, retrieves and distributes specimens for laboratory analysis; prepares related records and may ay train or lead subordinate staff or students in the performance of assigned laboratory tasks; demonstrates basic laboratory techniques to laboratory assistants and technicians, research fellows, residents, and students. They also use computers to organize and analyze laboratory research efforts, maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety and compliance standards, enhances professional growth and development by participating in educational programs, reading current literature and participating in in-service meetings and workshops and prepares other written documentation as required by the profession and the department; maintains, distributes, analyzes and projects information for required records, reports and statistics as directed.

Starting salary for this position is $43,434 annually which includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience

1. Master's degree in a science-related field; or
2. Bachelor's degree in a science-related field and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time laboratory experience, including six (6) months experience training or leading subordinate staff or students in the performance of assigned laboratory tasks; or
3. Associate's degree in a science-related field and the equivalent of three (3) years of full-time laboratory experience, including six (6) months experience training or leading subordinate staff or students in the performance of assigned laboratory tasks.

NOTE:
Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have experience maintaining multiple cell lines under aseptic conditions., experience performing biochemical assays including protein extraction, western blotting, PCR, ELISA and other 96-well plate-based assays, drug screens utilizing live cell imaging, and cell viability assays and will also be comfortable working with mice, including tumor implantation and growth monitoring. They will also have the ability to utilize Excel and GraphPad software to analyze plate-based assays, experience formatting data for publication and comfort presenting data in group settings on a regular basis, and excellent organizational skills, track use of lab supplies weekly to maintain inventory.
