What you will be doing:

Responsible for processing US Multi-state and Canada payroll on a regular basis, as well as facilitating company-wide Human Resources systems to include International locations. Assigns Payroll related activities to staff and respective staff members. Ensures employees' pay is processed timely and accurately. Develops and controls tasks necessary to accomplish the organization's payroll processing objectives, including relationships with management team, payroll sourcing company, internal and external auditors, and State and Federal agencies. Provide thought leadership, planning, project coordination and management for the development of cost-effective Technology solutions to meet current and future business needs.

  • Direct and coordinate activities of the Payroll Staff and systems at the various locations in the United States and Canada. Oversee the processing of payrolls processed on various pay frequencies and payroll systems.
  • Analyze all Payroll processing systems and continually assess the business functionality, in order to make recommendations for upgrades or improvements to upper management. Oversee the processing of the organization's human resource information using the most efficient and cost-effective computer systems and applications.
  • Direct and interpret all aspects of the payroll functions to establish appropriate checks and balances to ensure payroll compliance and accuracy with State, Federal, and FLSA laws including employee and employer taxation, wage garnishments, support orders, and tax levies, and establish relationships with internal and external auditors and State and Federal agencies.
  • Oversee general ledger reporting and reconciliation. Oversee the administration of payment for bonuses, 401K funding, ESPP purchases, and other company benefits.
  • Collaborate with the Accounting Department at month-end and year-end to ensure proper reconciliation with the Tax Department to ensure proper tax compliance and with the Human Resources Department to ensure accurate benefits processing.
  • Foster and maintain positive relationships with HR constituents, technology teams, and customer base. Ensure continuity in delivery of services to users throughout the enterprise.
  • Strategize and formulate corporate human resources initiatives with Management Designs5% people analytics, metrics, reports, and measures to facilitate effective business decisions. Collaborates with Center of Expertise, Enterprise Services Technology Teams, and HR Business partners to ensure effective definition and delivery of services.
  • Manage subordinates, supervisors, and non-supervisory employees in accordance with Helen of Troy's policies. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of a department. Interviews hires, and trains employees. Prepares work schedules, assigns duties, and directs work. Evaluates the quality of work conducts performance appraisals and counsels employees. Addresses complaints and resolves.
  • Perform performance reviews of direct reports and makes pay recommendations.


Skills needed to be successful in this role:
  • A strong aptitude for building a culture of trust, integrity, and performance.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree or other 2-year Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field
  • 8+ years of applicable payroll experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
  • Demonstrated mastery in automated payroll systems
  • Excellent knowledge of United States laws and regulations (federal & state) as it pertains to payroll.
  • Understanding of payroll laws and regulations in Canada
  • Experience analyzing and modifying automated payroll systems and HRIS to solve system problems, lead installation efforts, and make recommendations
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience with compensation taxation and long-term equity incentive instruments (RSAs, PSUs, PSAs)
  • Experience with retirement and severance benefits
