Job Description
The Senior Medical Grants Specialist position is the lead role for the Medical Grants team, primarily responsible for evaluating Medical Grant requests for education and research (investigator-initiated studies; IISs) received from external customers for all Business Units while ensuring process compliance. This role works closely with external customers and business partners to plan and facilitate grant-related activities. This role is also integral to the growth of the Medical Grants program through the identification and execution of continuous improvement actions and execution of key educational initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

  • 60% Perform essential medical grant functions and be involved in the oversight of function which may include leading administrative team members.
    • Review grant submissions for strategic alignment, completeness, compliance with internal/external regulations, interacting directly with external requestors and business partners as needed to make support recommendations.
    • Facilitate cross-functional Medical Affairs and Grants Committee (MAGC) meetings and activities and ensure appropriate and efficient follow-up of committee action items and decisions.
    • Maintain processes ensuring currency and adherence to legal and regulatory guidelines for medical grant compliance and grant management system including system maintenance and upgrades.
    • Oversee reconciliation and monitoring of supported educational activities.
  • 25% Participate in development of therapeutic area strategy for educational initiatives and execute activities as assigned (e.g., therapeutic area strategy planning, write and post call for grants/requests for proposals, present proposals to internal leadership and partners etc.)
  • 15% Compile medical grant data for analysis and report on department's progress toward performance and metrics, delivering summaries and communications to internal stakeholders.


Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Advanced degree in biomedical or life sciences preferred
  • CME Certification or other comparable training preferred
  • Seven (7) or more years combined related experience with medical or clinical experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and/or medical devices industry and/or with an educational provider required.
  • Pharmaceutical experience required.
  • Strong understanding of FDA, OIG, HIPAA, and other regulatory guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry; ACCME guidelines pertaining to medical education sponsored by the pharmaceutical industry; related experience within the United States (i.e. understanding of U.S. regulatory environment).
  • Familiarity with clinical trial design and statistics and their application to the interpretation and presentation of clinical data.
  • Experience managing major projects.
  • Experience within a corporate setting and the ability to think strategically to model and guide compliant behavior to internal and external colleagues.
  • Practices professionalism and integrity in all actions - demonstrating the ability to foster concepts of teamwork, cooperation, self-control, and flexibility.
  • Possess client-facing and internal communication skills and an ability to work through conflict to drive productive resolutions.
  • Successful track record demonstrating strong analytical and organization skills and the ability to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a high-pressure, constantly changing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to persuade with verbal and written communications involving multiple key client groups maintaining a high-level of credibility, professionalism, and customer focus.
  • Ability to interface effectively with a variety of technical platforms for the collection, review, and communication regarding Medical Education Grants.
