General Description:

This position is responsible for providing leadership in architecture, design, optimization, and production support of the technologies that comprise the Institution's network environment, ensuring the stable operation of IT assets and services. The Senior Network Administrator will require the ability to manage multiple priorities, including help desk tickets, daily tasks and projects, while working closely with other team members. It requires a person that can remain flexible and can effectively collaborate across technology teams and business units. This position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work with diplomacy and positive attitude. Responsibilities will also include evaluating present networks and systems, recommending expansion, modification and replacement. This position frequently requires nights, weekend and holiday work hours.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Associate degree in a related field or current CCNA or CCNP certification.

Two years of full-time current work experience in a Network or Telecommunications related field.

Extensive working knowledge of networking, security, and telephony systems, including developing, configuring, supporting, and optimizing networking hardware, software, telecommunications, and related technologies

Extensive working knowledge of networking standards, protocols, security, troubleshooting, and performance tuning

Extensive working knowledge of Microsoft and Linux operating systems and virtualization tools such as VMWare and Microsoft HyperV as well as desktop software such as Microsoft Office suite

Ability to perceive the full range of the color spectrum in working with network cabling

Ability to make independent decisions quickly in emergency situations

Ability to comprehend and make inferences from material written in the English language and understand and follow complex schematics, circuit diagrams, service orders, work sheets, floor plans, electrical wiring plans, construction blueprints and related documents

Ability to make skillful, controlled manipulations of small objects such as wiring, tools, and small equipment parts

Ability to learn job-related material through oral instruction, observation, structured lecture, and reading

Ability to enter data or information into a computer terminal, personal computer, or other keyboard device

Ability to perform mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and algebra

Knowledge of the uses, calibration, and care of electronic test equipment, specialized test equipment and diagnostics used for troubleshooting telecommunications systems

Knowledge of cable distribution and basic principles of electricity

Knowledge of advanced voice and data communications systems and equipment

Knowledge of standard communications wiring, color coding, and connection schemes

Knowledge of computerized and microprocessor-controlled telecommunications systems operation and theory.

Knowledge of analog and digital electronics.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

Work is often performed in small cramped areas, such as ceiling spaces, and equipment enclosures

Ability to climb ladders or steps to reach objects

Ability to move objects weighing 50 pounds or more short distances

Work under pressure, handling significant problems or tasks which come up simultaneously or unexpectedly

Five years of full-time current work experience in a Network or Telecommunications related field.

Required Training:

Serve in a General role in the OCCC emergency management plan. An employee in this position must complete National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within the first 90 days of employment (subject to class availability) and on a continuing basis as required. The specific courses to be completed within 90 days of employment in this position include:

Work Hours:

Monday - Friday 8am-5pm. Some after hours, on-call and weekend work is required.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement):

Design, install and maintain network systems, hardware, software, and peripherals across the enterprise as required

Develop and maintain network security, data integrity, and system security processes and procedures to relevant College Policy, State and Federal standards

Maintain Data Center Operations by monitoring, measuring, and optimizing performance of all network hardware, storage, software, telephony, cabling, and data communications connections ensuring maximum uptime

Oversee the utility and condition to ensure optimal performance of the network supporting multi-line telephone systems, paging systems, wireless bridges and other data and voice communications equipment

Identify resources for departmental activities and projects and provide technical and budgetary input and management of vendors/suppliers

Develop, maintain, and continually improve relationships/partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, team-mates, and vendors/suppliers

Solve business problems by performing analysis, preparing recommendation(s), and providing project leadership/management for successful implementation of relevant technology, business process modifications and/or enhancements

Identify, analyze, diagnose research, and resolve technical problems for individuals and groups in an efficient manner, recognizing the proper course of action to take, communicating and escalating severe issues as appropriate

Respond to help desk tickets, telephone calls, email and personnel requests for technical support ensuring timely feedback and closure

Provide escalated support for the Help Desk, Network Specialist, and System Administrators to perform tactical problem resolution as required

Provide technical training for the Help Desk, Network Specialist, and Systems Administrators as required

Communicate highly technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel

Perform knowledge transfers among team members by preparing and maintaining documentation for networks, systems, processes, procedures, written instructions, and solutions to problems

Collaborate with team members to identify and recommend process, network, system, hardware, and software improvements and/or upgrades

Maintain knowledge of developments in relevant technologies and their use in the industry, making recommendations when appropriate

Make recommendations to the Director of Information Technology Infrastructure for all network and telecommunications department needs and budgetary requirements.

Serve as the backup for the Network Specialist and Telecommunications Systems Specialist

Check equipment, including test instruments, for preventive maintenance and to ensure compliance with FCC requirements

Create and update records of electronic systems performance, work accomplished or related information

Utilize specialized test equipment and diagnostics to locate and correct faults and trouble in the network and telecommunications system and associated peripheral equipment

Install and maintain mobile voice/data terminals in Campus Police Department vehicles

Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service

Perform cable distribution using basic principles of electricity

Utilize standard communications wiring, color coding, and connection schemes
