Senior Project Engineer, Operational Excellence

Work Mode: Onsite

Opportunity

Implementation of lean plan roadmap for manufacturing site, by leading cross functional teams to enhance customer value and reduce waste using proven tool in process improvement. A strong bias toward action with structured problem-solving skills are required. Drive KOS (Kohler Operating System) deployment in respective area through training and participation in robust process improvement methods, process standardization, and the development or use of quality systems and tools. Drive cost reductions through AFO utilizing process improvement techniques, redesign, insourcing/outsourcing opportunities, and quality improvements.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Must have a passion to bring lean concepts to a learning organization and have fun doing it.
  • Develop, Lead, and Drive the Continuous Improvement Strategy for area of responsibility through application of Lean Manufacturing tools (e.g. 5S, SMED, Error Proofing, Flow, Pull, TPM, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, Problem Solving, Visual Management) to achieve or exceed the facility plan on efficiency and cost.
  • Lead & coach the Continuous Improvement Team(s) and insure performance goals and expectations are achieved.
  • Develop detailed process maps to highlight areas of opportunity and systematically reduce variation in manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct research and development on new manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Embrace troubleshooting of production systems and manufacturing operations.
  • Implement, verify and prove out all new and changed processes.
  • Investigate and test new processes or process changes to improve costs, quality, and productivity.
  • Support existing manufacturing processes and objectives through scrap, efficiency, downtime and cost reduction efforts, Kohler operating Systems (KOS) activates, Facilitate and lead Kaizen events to drive improvement activates and ongoing training and development. 
  • Communicate and interact effectively. Oral, written & presentation mediums with manufacturing personnel, first line supervision, and all other levels of plant and division management, customers, and vendors as part of a team-based organization will be required.
  • Perform data collection activities to establish baselines and confirm results of actions (e.g. time studies) and establish waste process/manufacturing procedures where necessary.
  • Initiate and coordinate self-directed process improvement plans based on Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, and Morale metrics.
  • Drives key measurements for the organization which are quantifiable and measurable and which strategic performance is measured against. Monitors results to make sure continuous improvements are maintained and benefits are sustainable over the long term.
  • Drive adoption of best practices developed by Lean and Six Sigma teams across the division.  Establishes and maintains relationship with management and/or process owners for the purpose of aligning objectives and removing obstacles for process implementation. Benchmarking and some travel will be required for ongoing development and business exposure.
  • Achieve annual cost savings based upon a predetermined percentage of annual salary to be set during Maximizing Performance review. Percentage will be based upon projected potential projects, production levels, delivery and sales growth.
  • Provide cost estimates for new product development, Insourcing/outsourcing of existing components/processes and potential cost reductions.
  • Solid computer skills in MS Office package, Visio, SPC (Minitab), smart phones & tablets.
  • All other tasks and responsibilities as defined by Supervisor/Manager.

Skills/Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering related field with 5 years related work experience.
  • Lean and/or Six Sigma Certification a plus.
