Position Summary

Designs and develops new valve products.
Essential Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Participates in customer research targeted at developing specifications for new products.

Analyzes research data or customer specifications and proposed product specifications to determine feasibility of product proposal.

Develops appropriate product concepts according to requirements and specifications

Develops workplans and schedules, prepares progress reports. Confers with marketing personnel or customers to clarify or resolve problems.

Prepares or directs preparation of CAD models and detailed drawings including establishment of new part numbers and bills of material.

Prepares or direct the preparation of prototype product. Plans and develops experimental test programs or performs calculations to verify design adequacy. Set ups and performs tests, and collects data.

Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications. Prepares reports for newly performed tests or analysis.

Confers with marketing, sales, customers and other engineering personnel and prepares design modifications as required.

Confers with industrial engineers, buyers and manufacturing personnel to insure manufacturability.

Prepares or directs preparation of instruction manuals and procedures. Checks work performed by other engineers and designers for accuracy and completeness.

Resolves production problems either in house or at suppliers' facilities. Analyzes product performance problems and recommends solutions to satisfy customer requirements.

Reviews sales literature for technical accuracy. Prepares work instructions and departmental procedures.

Performs training on procedures in area of expertise.

Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks.
Position Requirements

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Provides technical direction to assigned design/drafting personnel.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university is preferred, but we will consider other engineering or science degrees, along with appropriate aptitude and experience. Experience requirements vary from New Graduate to 10 years professional experience; requirements will be communicated separately in the recruiting process.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory. Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems. A thorough understanding of Boolean logic is required.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. Ability to understand and apply Boolean logic.

COMPUTING SKILLS

Ability to utilize solid modeling CAD software (such as CREO or Solidworks) and other engineering tools including FEA and CFD. Ability to utilize word processing software, prepare spreadsheets and databases and to navigate and use custom applications in a MS Windows environment.

The work environment includes both typical office and engineering lab. Occasional field work in the production area, at suppliers' factories, and at customer sites will also be required. Such field work may expose the employee to moving mechanical parts, excessive noise, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The employee must accept safety training and follow safety procedures, including wearing PPE, according to the safety procedures at each site.
