Ideal Candidate Statement:

The Ideal Candidate shall

  • have journey-level experience
  • be familiar with basic math theory required to solve electric formulas
  • have experience working in educational or institutional setting as opposed to only residential experience.
  • stay current on the evolution of technology associated with the electrical trade. This would include automated lighting systems, motion sensors, LED technology, low voltage relays, and computer based software needed for lighting controls.
  • be able to articulate knowledge of what different color wires represent in electrical panels and pull boxes
  • be familiar with voltage up to 480, and familiar with the function, operation, and preventive care of transformers and switch gear, up to 12KV.
  • be willing to work on ladders, scissor type lifts and boom lifts to replace, repair or troubleshoot roadway lights. The candidate should also be able to track and repair/replace broken underground conduits for exterior light systems.
  • be willing and able to work with breaker panels, relays, and other components necessary to restore power to building systems.
  • be familiar with photovoltaic technology to troubleshoot, repair, or make repair recommendations.
  • be comfortable working with the public, and also with contract partners who provide service for the District. This would include writing scope of work for larger projects as well as providing estimates of cost to the management team.

Job Description Summary:

This is a 12 month, 100% Classified position

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Maintenance and Operations, this position is responsible for performing advance journey level electrician for the District. The position is also responsible for providing basic assistance in the other skilled trades areas.

Essential Duties:

  1. Connects wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
  2. Inspects electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair.
  3. Tests electrical systems for continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
  4. Follows appropriate diagrams to determine location of wiring and equipment and ensure compliance with building codes.
  5. Installs ground leads and connect power cables to equipment.
  6. Installs electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, or fixtures.
  7. Places conduits, pipes, or tubing, inside concealed areas to complete circuits between boxes.
  8. Develops a preventative maintenance program for all electrical systems.
  9. Recommends estimate time, material, or labor costs during project planning.
  10. Updates energy electric systems.
  11. Conducts basic servicing and adjustments of HVAC systems.
  12. Performs basic locksmithing support functions such as, but not limited to, the cut and/or duplication of keys.
  13. Supports the plumbing area by performing duties such as, but not limited to, assisting in the cutting of pipes, pre-assembly, and installations of plumbing systems and components.
  14. Studies blueprints, design specifications, or manufacturers' recommendations to ensure the proper installation, or configuration, of equipment and components.
  15. Complies with all applicable standards, policies, or procedures, such as safety procedures or the maintenance of work areas.
  16. Performs preventive, or general maintenance, of all maintenance equipment.
  17. Effectively engage and support historically minoritized groups by addressing issues of equity and improving culturally responsive service-oriented practices.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned.

  6. Use basic math skills to measure currents, volts, and calculate the amount of cable that is required for a variety of projects.

Education and Experience:

Three (3) years of experience as an Electrician or related position.ANDMust have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.
