SUMMARY

The Social Media Coordinator is responsible for creating, developing, executing and evaluating a comprehensive social media strategy that leverages museum content to educate and inform the public, while ensuring consistency and quality content across the Museum's social media channels. This position engages audiences both on-site and throughout the nation by creating personal connections and dialogues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

PLANS, DESIGNS AND IMPLEMENTS SOCIAL MEDIA PROGRAMS AND CAMPAIGNS

Works with key stakeholders to develop and implement strategies for visual and written content, engagement, promotion, visibility, audience reach and conversion (converting online community members into online and offline museum supporters).

Develops a social media strategy focused on informing, educating and creating dialogues about American history through the African American lens and the visitor's/viewer's place in that history.

Develops avenues of access to the Museum's data, collections and research and creates new uses of the museum's assets through collaborative structuring/development of platforms and initiatives.

Curates content and oversees the design of social media efforts. Implements and manages social media programs to ensure consistency and quality content across all social media platforms.

Regularly uses social media monitoring and listening tools to assess brand sentiment and reputation.

Establishes a social media crisis communications strategy and implementation protocols and provides direct oversight of execution during crises, emergencies or controversies.

Conceives, writes content for and manages the museum's LinkedIn strategy and audience growth initiatives.

Monitors all sites for inappropriate content or policy breaches and acts accordingly.

Advises management on how to handle issues or problems with social media activities including trending topics, political concerns, or unexpected conversations.

Tracks the museum's social media accounts and develops strategies and written content resulting in constructive interaction with social users.

Keeps abreast of NMAAHC public affairs, research, collection acquisitions, exhibitions and programs, education and public programs, historic anniversaries, and initiatives to formulate and strategize appropriate social media programs and campaigns.

Works with video producer to create engaging and informative video content for social media platforms.

DEVELOPS SOCIAL MEDIA POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Assists in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and best practices that ensure consistency of voice across all of the social media channels.

Appropriately manages the museum's reputation on social media and leverages social media to meet the museum's education and participation goals.

Monitors and enforces security, copyright, trademark, branding policies as well as accessibility, data protection, e-marketing and e-commerce laws across the Museum's social media channels.

ANALYTICS, MEASURES AND METRICS

Determines how to measure the Museum's social media strategy.

Monitors trends and sets goals for social media platform growth.

Develops and monitors effective benchmarks for measuring the impact of social media programs.

Uses various software, programs and/or surveys to measure the impact of social media on the overall marketing efforts.

Analyzes social media analytics and user feedback to understand trends and content effectiveness.

Reviews and reports on the effectiveness of campaigns in an effort to maximize results.

Regularly provides feedback and data-driven insights gained from social media monitoring to evolve communication strategies in a timely fashion.

Works closely with the marketing team to develop social media campaigns that help to achieve NMAAHC's marketing goals.

Analyzes the long-term needs of the museum's social media strategy, prepares enhancements to the social media marketing plan, and prepares regular reports to leadership on emerging social media trends.

Strategizes with and educates the management team and museum staff on how best to incorporate relevant social media techniques and strategies into Museum's programs, how to handle issues or problems, and ways to leverage social media to increase participation.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions as the best of own ability.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five (5) years' relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education / experience. Extensive expertise with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn. Must have strong technical understanding of Hootsuite and Sprout Social.

CERTIFICATES / LICENSES / REGISTRATION

JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

This position requires knowledge and experience in the use of social media in a museum, cultural or educational institution used to inform and educate the public.

Deep experience developing comprehensive social media campaigns, associated metrics and strategies for reaching target audiences.

Skill in in developing and implementing of social media policies, procedures and workflows.

Skill in utilizing and analyzing new and existing social media trends.

Skill in project management and ability to manage and prioritize multiple ongoing projects independently.

Skill in leading strategies, driving engagement and producing great results on various social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and more).

Ability to communicate in writing to produce reports, write and edit for social media and marketing efforts.

Proficient in oral communication to be able to advocate and educate museum staff on the use of social media.

Experience producing engaging and informative video content for social media platforms.

Substantive knowledge of African American History and Culture and ability to effectively develop and communicate the museum's mission, content and programs to diverse audiences.

Ability to advanced social media communication and analytical practices, methods and techniques to the solution of complex public affairs problems such as using social media and/or non-traditional media to present informational and educational material to the public.

Experience gathering information, analyzing public reaction and developing recommendations and metrics for management to improve the Museum's communications with the general public and specialized groups.

Proficiency in planning and scheduling ongoing production-oriented work, setting and adjusting short-term priorities, and preparing deadline schedules.

Demonstrated experience developing written and multimedia content for an organization's social media channels including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Strong knowledge of African American history and culture to research, plan and write online content about identity, race and social justice.

Experience with metrics platforms (Meltwater Analytics, Google Analytics, Sprout and Cision).

Desktop publishing experience with tools like Photoshop, and Canva.

Excellent knowledge of social media best practices.

Ability to cultivate, manage and leverage relationships including senior leadership, and meet multiple stakeholder requirements.

Excellent written/verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

Outstanding organization skills and ability to multi-task successfully under pressure.

Exceptional time-management and ability to meet deadlines.

Ability to work independently, as well as part of a larger team.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
