The University of Miami Health System at Doral has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Social Worker, LCSW - Doral with a hire date of June 2024.

The University of Miami Health System will soon open the second phase to our state-of-the-art facility in Downtown Doral that serves as a western hub for our distinguished regional network of ambulatory services. This 160,000 square foot expansion will continue to bring world-class academic medicine, cutting-edge technology, and innovative treatment options to the rapidly growing Doral community. UHealth at Doral will have services through the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, and the Desai Sethi Urology Institute, as well as specialties such as cardiology, endocrinology, otolaryngology, gastroenterology, dermatology, and more. The expansion will provide residents with innovative, specialized medical services in the heart of their community. Once complete, UHealth at Doral will have 8 operating rooms, 3 endoscopy procedure rooms, 33 cancer treatment bays, over 60 multidisciplinary exam rooms, and supporting ancillary services like imaging, lab, and respiratory therapy. UHealth at Doral will open in September, 2024.

Location: Doral UHealth

The Social Worker, LCSW works with clients in order to help them deal with issues involving mental and emotional health. This position provides emotional support, mental health evaluations and therapy, and case management services.

Core Job Functions:

  • Advocates for and helps clients gain access to resources while confronting their personal issues.
  • Counsels and provides crisis intervention for patients, including assessment and treatment of behavioral problems.
  • Coaches patients on how to manage ongoing health conditions.
  • Provides therapy to help patients make positive behavior changes.
  • Assists patients and their families through individual, group, and education conferences to understand, accept, and follow treatment recommendations.
  • Refers patients and their families to specialized treatment programs in accordance with their needs, and monitors and evaluates their progress.
  • Collaborates with the other departments to integrate care where needed.
  • Maintains current and appropriate documentation in patient chart.
  • Acts as a mandated reporter in suspected child abuse cases.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Core Qualifications:

Education:

Master of Social Work (MSW)

Certification and Licensing:

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

BLS Certified (within 3 months of hire)

Experience:

Minimum 1 year of experience

Department Specific Functions:
  • Clinically evaluates patients for depression, anxiety and provides short-term counseling.
  • On-call rotation for the facility to receive and facilitate after-hour calls.
  • If deemed clinically necessary, independently facilitates an involuntary examination under the Baker Act, and transfers to the nearest Baker Act receiving facility.
  • Presents at educational conferences as the experts in psychosocial practice.
  • Services to the community through education, consultation, research, and volunteering to utilize, promote or strengthen the community services, programs, and resources available to meet the needs of patients.
  • Services to the profession to support the appropriate orientation, supervision, and evaluation of clinical social workers; participate in and promote student training and professional education in social work; and advance knowledge through clinical and other research.
  • To work with MSW students to provide educational opportunities, supervision, and increase knowledge of social work intervention.
  • Provides professional counseling and therapeutic intervention to patients, families, and significant others, utilizing treatment modalities appropriate to the age group of the patient.
  • Provides the use of scientific and applied knowledge, theories, and methods for the purpose of describing, preventing, evaluating, and treating individuals, couple, marital, family, or group behavior, based on the person-in-situation perspective of psychosocial development, normal and abnormal behavior, psychopathology, unconscious motivation, interpersonal relationships, environmental stress, differential assessment, differential planning, and data gathering.
  • Provides psychotherapeutic services to patients and relatives in individual, couple, or group settings to assist them in adjusting to the physical/psychological difficulties associated with illness.
  • Counsel patients and relatives on psychosocial ramifications of their medical condition which may include grief counseling.
  • Evaluate and provide consultation to the medical team on the social factors relating to illness, hospitalization, diagnosis, and recommended treatment of patients.
  • Leads or co-leads specific support groups.
  • Assumes the role of patient advocate.
  • Participates in or consults on social work-related research/education programs.
  • Educates patients and families regarding advance directives and assists in the completion of appropriate documents.
  • Administers a specialized program (such as suicide prevention or formal research project) where supervision is not a major responsibility.
  • Works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary staff to design and implement treatment plans and discharge plans for the patient.
  • Supports and maintains the standards of UHealth and the social work profession.
  • Participates in orientation and training of social work and multidisciplinary staff.
  • Participates in specific research projects as required.
  • Maintains current knowledge in social work practice and specific knowledge of the bio-psychosocial issues of the specific age groups served.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
