About the Role

That's where you'll focus as the Senior Director of User Experience Design for Gap Inc. You will contribute significantly to our business results, customer experience and the evolution of a phenomenal design practice. You'll lead our large user experience team as we create new and evolve existing digital experiences that serve our customers and grow our business. Our strategy is encompassed in our Power Plan - a combination of the Power of our Brands, the Power of our Portfolio and the Power of our Platform. The single digital platform that serves all our customers, across all our brands, will be your focus. It's $6B+ in revenue and growing, which makes us the second largest online apparel retailer in America.

With one of the top-20 global ecommerce sites we're amongst the handful of competitors who can - and must - be at the forefront of great digital experiences to thrive. We have an aggressive investment agenda, a large footprint and a massive customer base. You'll lead the design of the experiences for those customers in their digital experience with our brands. You'll report to the Vice President, Digital for Gap Inc. and lead a large (50+) person team.

This role can be based in our spectacular, waterfront San Francisco office - or can be remote in other US locations with travel to San Francisco as necessary.

What You'll Do

  • Lead a large (50+) person design team - to implement strong user experiences - primarily on our ecommerce site, but also for store associates and shoppers, and in new business ventures
  • Partner closely with brand leaders, product management, engineering and strategy
  • Support an ambitious investment plan - we've regularly grown our investment in digital, and will continue significant growth in 2022
  • Elevate the role of design at Gap Inc - via thought leadership, design excellence and stewardship of our digital experiences
  • Develop innovative experiences leveraging design thinking, robust experience research and development processes
  • Coach and develop our wonderful existing team of strong designers, design technologists, and copywriters
  • Dramatically grow the team - we have aggressive hiring plans and budget for this coming year - you will recruit, hire and onboard, and coach a growing team
  • Challenge your team and the organization to broaden the definition of competition and conventions; stay abreast of trends in design, usability and processes
  • Manage team budget, planning and goals

Who You Are

  • Deep expertise in design - you've previously led large design organizations to drive impact at scale
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills - displayed the ability to thrive, influence and drive change in large organizations
  • Leadership experience - in growing and developing large teams: coaching, recruiting, retaining and evolving
  • Experience in ecommerce or retail may be an advantage, but we're primarily looking for great design leadership
  • Track record of continuous improvement and innovation
