Director, Business Intelligence, Reporting & Compensation

Purpose of the position:

Are you seeking a role with upward mobility in Sales Operations? Responsible for critical business processes and being a key player across multiple functions within a global organization? This exciting role is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Business Intelligence (BI), Reporting & Compensation team at Elsevier Clinical Solutions, supporting 120+ Sales professionals with direct management of four analysts across two distinct arenas: BI & Reporting and Sales Compensation. The Director BI Reporting & Compensation will be an internal subject matter expert on our reporting environments and have a strong working knowledge of the CRM systems and Financial Management tools used by the organization. They will be responsible for the maintenance of our dynamic reporting tools, development, and deployment of new dashboards to drive sales enablement and an internal coach to their use across Sales and Sales Leadership. This role is also responsible for the design, creation, rollout and administration of established Clinical Solutions sales commission plans. The Director will be responsible for analyzing the commission and incentive plans used by the Clinical Solutions team to determine the best ways to motivate the sales organization and drive sales results based on industry best practices and compensation methods.

Division Organizational Overview:

The Clinical Solutions Division of Elsevier uses its industry-leading intellectual property and content to create Clinical and Drug Reference, Patient Engagement, Performance Management, Workflow and Decision Support products for healthcare professionals across a range of practice settings and commercial organizations. These products and tools aid in disease management, medication error reductions, workflow improvements, effective patient management and economic analysis and cost control.

Role Responsibilities include:

Drive Business Results by:
  • Successful and timely administration of Clinical Solutions commission plans.
  • Along with the VP, Sales & Commercial Operations, responsible for the updating and revision of sales commission plans based on company objectives and performance targeting a growing new business segment and established renewal base of business.
  • Responsible for partnering with the Finance organization in establishing yearly new and renewal quotas and allocation of quotas across the sales organization and updating monthly accrual estimates.
  • Focus on process improvement, commission's standards, and consistency in payout reporting.
  • An authority on Clinical Solutions monthly and YTD forecast models, ensuring a consistent approach and accuracy in reporting.
  • Use of dynamic reporting metrics (KPIs) and views to assess the overall health of the Clinical Solutions business and provide early warning indicators on yearly position.
  • Enhance sales effectiveness reporting by developing reporting models to track renewal performance, whitespace potential, and risk profiles.
  • A focus on process improvement, reporting standards and consistent reliability in reporting.

Enabling Sales Team Performance by -
  • Coaching team members, sales managers and sales professionals in compensation plan mechanics and a full understanding of compensation payouts.
  • Working with sales leadership to promote best practices for usage of sales data trends, opportunity health and velocity and forecasting processes.
  • Liaising with support teams (HR, Finance, Operations) to understand requirements and improve underlying processes speeding the selling process.
  • Providing consultative analytical support to Sales Enablement, Contracting and Sales Training teams to support daily activities of the broader Sales Operations department.

Systems & Tools -
  • Clinical Solutions has significantly invested in its Sales Operations technical stack of products and tools to support and aid the Sales and Sales Operations teams. These modern solutions promote endless possibilities for the creation of reporting views and compensation outputs.
  • Utilizing Xactly Incent for the delivery of sales actuals, compensation calculators and payout statements.
  • Driving Sales and Sales Leadership to Salesforce and Tableau reporting environments to aid in the support of a data driven culture.
  • Aid in development of visualization tools to prepare executive ready presentations for sales leaders and the Executive Management Team.

Our Requirements -
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience within a sales analysis, finance or similar role required, ideally in a large sales organization or similar work experience
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Positive attitude, accountable team player and motivation to grow professionally
  • Possess and display effective written and verbal communication, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and analytical/situational thinking
  • Display empathetic approaches in communicating outcomes to Sales audiences
  • Knowledge of compensation, sales and/or financial process, ideally with SaaS related products
  • Experience with compensations reporting tools is preferred (Xactly, Callidus, etc.)
  • CRM system experience required, preferably with Salesforce and/or Siebel
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word & PowerPoint) required
  • Experience with Tableau, Oracle Business Intelligence, SQL and Snowflake preferred
