Who We Are:

To help assure system reliability and avoid costly problems in the field, SwRI evaluates functionality, structural integrity, and environmental compatibility of systems and components under anticipated adverse or extreme storage, transportation, and operating environments.

Objectives of this Role:

  • Provide project support to engineering staff, with test setup, execution, and data collection.
  • Technician will primarily support laboratory testing.
  • Provide laboratory support of crash, security fence, battery, drop, and vibration/shock testing programs.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
  • Support the setup of testing including vibration and shock testing, crash test vehicles and towing system, and fence testing.
  • Work with hand tools, power tools, data logging equipment, and common MS software programs including Word and Excel.
  • Perform mechanical assembly, fabrication, data acquisition, and documentation tasks.
Requirements:
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associates degree in mechanical engineering or technology would be beneficial.
  • 2-10 years: Interpreting engineering schematics and written procedures for complex mechanical, hydraulic and/or electronic systems.
  • Ability to design and build highly customized test fixtures/facilities, independently troubleshoot and resolve facility problems, interface directly with customers regarding definition of requirements.
  • Welding or construction experience would be beneficial.
  • Hands-on experience with construction and or mechanical/electrical assembly tasks.
  • Must be able to drive SwRI vehicles, forklift/telehandler, and operate overhead crane.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.

Must be a U.S. person (i.e., U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to ITAR work in section.
