Position OverviewThis position works with direction from the Head Counselors, Camp Director, and Camp Coordinator to supervise the student residential experience during the Midwestern Music Camps. This position will require coordination of social and educational activities for the campers and will interact directly with the campers, camp faculty, and other camp staff.

This position requires Camp Counselors to reside in dorms throughout the duration of the camp.

Selected candidates must successfully complete a background check on or before the first day of employment.

Job Description80% - Supervise middle school and high school students during camp activities. Supervision includes, but is not limited to, always ensuring the safety and well-being of campers at all times and taking attendance several times a day as campers move from one session to the next.

15% - Assist camp instructors as needed. This could include offering individualized help to camper(s) in a session.

5% - Other duties as needed

Positions will provide temporary assistance in a variety of areas.Required Qualifications

1. Must be at least 19 years of age or older
2. Capable of being highly organized and responsible for the safety and well-being of minors, as evidenced in application materials
3. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Preferred Qualifications

1. Junior/Senior status pursuing a bachelor's degree in music at KU or experience working with KU School of Music faculty. Preference may be given to students of under-represented instrumental families among the counseling staff.
2. First aid and CPR certification
3. Strong verbal communication skills
4. Experience supervising minors in educational and/or recreational settings
