Student Success Specialist (Grant Funded)

General Statement of Job:
The Student Success Specialist provides support for the Continuing, Professional and Workforce Education departmental student success initiatives. Assists students who enroll in continuing education courses. Provides information to prospective continuing education students regarding the non-credit to credit pathway programs and guides them through the admission, financial aid and registration processes. Tracks and monitors student progress through case management. Supports trainer requests to contact students who are not participating.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Implements Continuing, Professional and Workforce Education departmental student success initiatives.
  2. Assists students who are enrolled in continuing education courses.
  3. Provides information to prospective continuing education students regarding the non-credit to credit pathway programs and guides them through the admission, financial aid and registration processes.
  4. Supports trainer requests to contact students who are not participating.
  5. Tracks and monitors students’ progress through case management, including meeting with at risk students to monitor and ensure their success.
  6. Develops targeted reports for the department to monitor student progress.
  7. Assists with recruitment for continuing education pathway programs through presentations.
  8. Reviews applicants for eligibility and acceptance into pathway programs.
  9. Meets with at risk students to develop improvement and completion plan.
  10. Develops and maintains brochures and handouts, to provide accurate information to students.
  11. Assists with orientation events and assists incoming continuing education students with the registration process.
  12. Submits weekly reports to the Program Developer and Manager.
  13. Maintains familiarity with the College’s programs, policies, procedures, academic standards, admissions process, entrance tests, degree plans, courses and curriculum.
  14. Travels throughout the college district, as needed.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience:
  1. Bachelor’s Degree required.
  2. At least two (2) years of experience in advising, registration, financial aid, counseling, or student services in a higher education institution, preferred.
  3. Experience in case management, preferred.


Checks, Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
  1. Security Sensitive position: All applicants are subject to a criminal background check under South Texas College policy.
  2. In addition, subject to a federal background check.
  3. Must have or qualify for a valid Texas driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.
