Under direct supervision of a Nurse Manager, and taking into consideration the age and developmental needs of the patient, performs routine patient activities and delegated perioperative care procedures of a specialized and technical nature which includes observing and monitoring patient condition, identifying changes in collected patient data and notifying nurse, setting-up and maintaining specialized clinical equipment, knowledge of aseptic technique, collecting blood specimens and performing related, delegated nursing procedures. Is responsible for the routine operations of the perioperative/perinatal arena. Establish guidelines regarding infection control, surgical sterilization & cleaning protocols/guidelines, advanced surgical procedures (Fetal Therapy) and major trauma obstetrical cases. Collectively works with Fetal Therapy RN & the multidisciplinary team to ensure safety in this highly specialized perioperative arena. Daily operations include: hiring recommendations, supervision, staffing, evaluation and discipline of staff. Works effectively with providers and other staff to develop and implement common priorities and goals related to providing optimal customer service, maximizing operational efficiency, facilitating financial viability and rendering high quality perioperative/perinatal services. Demonstrates through leadership example, visible organizational support and a positive attitude to create a positive work environment and enhance provider and staff morale.

A. Education  Required knowledge of health care and perioperative services through completion of Bachelors degree or related equivalent experience  Successful completion of a certified nursing assistant training and additional technical training appropriate to the clinical setting. This training must be at a level of medical technician, corpsman or 30 credit hours in an Allied Health discipline.

B. Knowledge:  Must demonstrate a record of increasing job responsibility linked to accomplishments in perioperative health care operations and management. Job Title: Supervisor, Perioperative Clinical Operations  Experience using a standard personal computer including word processing, spreadsheet software and a computer based patient information system.  Knowledge of aseptic technique, basic wound care, patient safety, and patient transport techniques  Knowledge of recording and reporting pertinent clinical and operational data.  Knowledge of setting up and management of specialized perioperative equipment and systems.

C. Skills:  Basic analytical ability is required to:  Operate electronic monitoring equipment  Recognize abnormal signs and symptoms and subtle changes in patient condition  Determine appropriate information and resources needed r/t clinical situation  Organize and summarize information  Make judgments regarding patient care and perioperative activities within scope of practice  Highly effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to establish working relationships that foster optimal quality patient care.  Possesses a professional manner and has communication and interpersonal skills necessary to handle sensitive and confidential situations with poise, tact and diplomacy.  Ability to interact with diverse groups of people both with in and outside of the corporation.  Effective organizational and time management skills necessary to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects. Analytical ability is required in order to analyze medical vs. financial impact of problems and decide on appropriate course of action for department. Complex financial analytical ability is required as is contract negotiations and cost control. Work requires the ability to understand surgery equipment, supply and inventory management in order to evaluate and recommend supplies and equipment to ensure patient safety. 
