Position Overview:

The Supply Chain Optimizer role is based in Motiva's headquarters in Houston TX and reports into the Motiva Supply & Optimization Organization as an individual contributor within the Motiva Clean Products Optimization Team. This role serves as the primary interface between the Trading & Scheduling Team and the M&S Pricing and Demand Management Team. The position is responsible for ensuring that Motiva's end-to-end margin is maximized while sustaining safe and stable operations.

This position requires defining new ways to create a highly commercial, highly collaborative culture which always operates to deliver the best end to end value for Motiva.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to:

  • Translating unstructured, complex business problems into practical, powerful data solutions
  • Sifting through large data sets to identify and contextualize data that is most valuable to the business, given the current market conditions
  • Simplifying complex data sets and visualizing the data at multiple scales to be able to inform all levels of business
  • Providing on demand solutions for urgent data needs
  • Investigating reported data to uncover and correct flaws in the underlying data
  • Putting the contextualized data into action through optimization recommendations to the business
  • Developing tools that automate the processes of accessing, manipulating, and delivering the necessary information to stakeholders
  • Maintain an up-to-date scope of work enabling effectiveness at challenging the status quo and proper engagement during the daily market view huddles with Refining, Trading, Supply, Risk, Marine and other relevant stakeholders
  • Work closely with Motiva Business Development, and Crude Supply & Trading to identify new or enhanced logistics opportunities, secure new crude grades and improve crude run flexibility
  • Collaborate with the technical teams to approve new feeds and loosen operating constraints, allowing more feed flexibility at the refinery
  • Develop opportunity proposals for high-value improvement projects that unlock additional value capture for Motiva
  • Manage multiple interfaces within Refining, Supply, Trading & Logistics, Fuels Marketing & Sales, Finance, and Legal
  • Support understanding and monetization of real options in the supply portfolio with the aim of capturing time-value and pricing options
  • Support inventory management and working capital assessments as part of cash preservation management and optimization for supply
  • Backfill for other Optimizers
Experience and Qualifications:

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor's degree in BA, BS, MS Computer Science, Data Science, or related STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics) field
  • Familiarity with visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI)
  • Proven experience with crude characteristics, logistics and key quality parameters
  • Understanding of optionality in the end-to-end value chain and how it can be influenced to maximize value
  • Be highly resilient and stress resistant when dealing with unforeseen situations and under time pressure constraints to make informed decisions
  • Strong initiative and ability to challenge and question to find value creation opportunities
  • Must be comfortable adapting to and understanding systems and web-based tools
  • Requires effective communication with various stakeholders, ability to influence and drive effective teamwork to deliver enterprise-first goals is critical
  • Having "Commercial Curiosity" is a must for the success of the incumbent in all roles within the Supply & Optimization Organization
