General Statement of Job

The System Administrator is responsible for general IT server responsibilities. Duties include installation, maintenance, and backup of servers both physical and virtual. In addition will occasionally require some network and telephony equipment configuration and deployment. On-call response will be required with after-hours support necessary for maintenance.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

Installation, configuration, maintenance and inventory of server hardware.

Installation, configuration and management of server-based software and code libraries.

Installation, configuration and management of Windows, Linux and Apple server operating environments.

Installation, configuration and management of virtual server environments.

Configuration and maintenance of data backup systems.

Some network configurations of servers and related devices.

Organizes and manages many simultaneous projects.

Works with vendors to resolve hardware and software problems.

Supports on site disaster recovery.

Makes recommendations for overall system enhancements.

Performs system backups.

Monitors systems to ensure optimal performance.

Provides the highest practicable levels of performance and availability of all server systems.

Administers, maintains, and updates servers to provide optimal performance, availability, and security.

Designs, implements, and supports Microsoft, Linux, and Apple server systems, supporting software, and peripherals.

Troubleshoots wiring, programming, and equipment problems routinely.

Forecasts hardware and software upgrades.

Provides elevated support to IT customers and support staff when necessary.

Provides detailed documentation of plans, processes, and implementations.

Performs other related duties as required.

Education, Experience, and Licenses

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of networking, server technology, monitoring, patching, and security.

2+ years related experience and associate degree related to Information Technology required (bachelor's degree preferred).

A strong understanding of networking, server technology, monitoring, patching, and security as well as experience with the following is preferred:

Windows server

Linux OS

Active Directory

VMware ESXI and vCenter Server

DHCP, DNS, GPO, IIS, KMS, PXE, WSUS

Identity Management

EndPoint Manager

Valid Driver's License and the ability to meet insurance requirements for driving university provided vehicles.
