Your Role: MilliporeSigma's Genome Engineering and Modulation (GEM) Franchise is looking for a Technical Application Scientist to support our fast-growing product and service portfolio. This position reports directly to the Head of Commercial Enablement and will be primarily responsible for providing pre and post sales scientific support to global customers and sales teams. The products of focus include CRISPR, ZFNs, shRNA, ORFs, NGS and cell line engineering services.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented person with proven efficient communication skills who can combine expertise in experimental design and execution in gene editing workflows. This individuals' customer-centric approach to global customer service and sales team support will ensure increased utilization of and customer success with MilliporeSigma's world leading GEM product portfolio, ultimately driving revenue growth. As the Technical Application Scientist, Genome Engineering & Modulation, you will bring passion to the field of genome engineering to enable other scientists to be successful with their research.

  • Work closely and build strong relationships with cross-functional teams e.g. product management, R&D, field sales, operations and commercial enablement to obtain relevant information to facilitate extraordinary customer and sales team service and support
  • Coordinate with global sales teams and colleagues to generate leads, support opportunities and provide customers with the scientific support necessary to accelerate the sales process, increasing success rates of product evaluation and satisfaction
  • Provide continued pre- and post-sale consultative technical and scientific support via email, phone or web channels e.g. product selection, experimental design, workflow optimization, troubleshooting
  • Continuously develop and maintain technical expertise in the field of gene editing and related applications, serving as subject matter expert/key scientific resource for GEM product lines and services through proactive participation in company-led product training and self-directed training/education
  • Accurately record pertinent information in Customer Relationship Management system, SFDC
  • Summarize technologies to generate technical tips, FAQ's and other related resources
  • Regularly share actionable voice of customer information and provide feedback and/or recommendations for improvement of customer-facing resources and sales at department meetings
  • Willingness to perform other related duties as opportunities arise
Who you are:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS with 8+ years of experience, MS with 3+ years of experience, or PhD
  • Degree within the life sciences
  • 3+ years of hands-on laboratory experience in genome editing and modulation techniques (e.g. CRISPR, RNAi)
  • Deep working knowledge of cell and molecular biology techniques in a broad range of cell and/or animal models
  • Demonstrated ability to logically communicate complex technical information effectively, both orally and in writing to customers and colleagues
  • Willingness to travel on occasion for team meetings, off site training, or related business activities

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in a related area with hands on experience in the lab
  • Prior experience in a customer-facing role, preferably in a life sciences company
  • Passionate about genome engineering with a desire to enable other scientists to be successful with their research
  • Possesses innate sense of urgency and customer-first mentality regarding response times and quality of information communicated
  • Proven ability to work independently and be a self-starter in a fast-paced dynamic team environment, meeting deadlines and prioritizing work across multiple projects
  • Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management software, preferably SalesForce
  • Experience with functional genomics screening and NGS is a plus
