GHD is seeking a Hydrogen Technical Director in California to support market development & successful delivery of large hydrogen projects. Our office affiliations include San Diego, Irvine, Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo, San Francisco, Concord, Sacramento, Santa Rosa, Roseville, and Eureka. Location near the Los Angeles/Irvine or Bay Area is attractive.

The global energy sector is transforming! GHD's Future Energy team specializes in hydrogen, renewable natural gas (RNG), carbon capture utilization and sequestration (CCUS), offshore wind, and more. This position is a great opportunity to be part of GHD's growing Hydrogen team and Future Energy initiative with an exciting future ahead.

Responsibilities include:

Market Development

  • Build effective relationships with key existing clients while growing the client base; drive positive client interaction, as verified through client surveys.
  • Serve as the client manager for key clients and develop/carry out associated client engagement plans.
  • Pre-position for projects, create opportunities, and develop responses to RFPs, scope of work & budget estimates.
  • Lead contract negotiations with clients and partners.
  • Actively participate in professional organizations / events to promote the GHD brand.
Project Delivery
  • Undertake Project Director role on significant multi-disciplinary hydrogen projects, including hydrogen production, hydrogen blending in natural gas systems, hydrogen fueling applications, and hydrogen power generation.
  • Work with leadership team, project managers, and delivery teams to ensure project excellence, including internal resourcing, technical QA/QC, communication, client management and producing quality work within established budgets and schedules.
Team Collaboration
  • Actively participate in GHD's Global Hydrogen Practice Group.
  • Develop and mentor rising talent within the business and attract strategic hires to develop the hydrogen business.
  • Supervise one or more employees as needed.
Successful skills and qualifications:
  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Engineering, or a recognized technical or financial/advisory field.
  • Minimum of 20 years of experience in the energy market with strong connections to the market in North America, particularly California, including minimum 3 years of specific expertise in hydrogen projects from a strategy, technical delivery and implementation standpoint.
  • Professional engineering certification, particularly in California, preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge and demonstrated experience originating and delivering projects in North American energy market, particularly in California.
  • Experience with innovative project delivery methods (e.g., design-build) preferred.
  • Professional engineering certification, particularly in California, preferred.
  • Other skills - Excellent written and oral communication skills; proven ability to develop, mentor and lead professional technical staff.
  • Ability to travel in North America, particularly in California, to customer locations or conferences, as required.

Salary range: $155,681.00 - $259,465.00
