PURPOSE: To perform multiple hands-on functions within the Consumables Process Engineering Group supporting Dept 85, Stainless Steel & Nickel wire drawing & manufacturing, ranging from the support of daily production operations to the development of new and improved manufacturing processes. This includes a focus on the continuous improvement of safety, quality, productivity, and manufacturing costs.

JOB DESCRIPTION (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES SUPPORTING DEPT 85):

  • Responsible for safety, cleanliness of work area, and workmanship while performing assigned duties.
  • Review, understand, and follow the departmental procedures that are associated with this position.
  • Responsible for product quality and productivity resulting from the manufacturing processes.
  • Set up and conduct tests under operational conditions to investigate processes and product designs.
  • May work independently or under the direction of a Consumable Process Engineer or Engineering Manager.
  • Assist with the execution of Permission Notes to test process changes, material changes, and new/redesigned products.
  • Support capital projects that may include installation of new or modified equipment and/or processes.
  • Must be able to perform basic analysis of raw data and make decisions based on the analysis.
  • Create and maintain all documentation associated with the manufacturing process.
  • Assist with "Job Hazard Analysis" as required.
  • Provide technical support in production, operations, maintenance, safety, testing, process improvement or product development.
  • Evaluate assigned Employee Suggestions.
  • Interact with all departments as required to support Consumable Division initiatives. These include, but are not limited to: R&D, Marketing, Supply Management, all production departments, Q/A.
  • Occasionally make decisions that affect the business results of the division (production costs etc.)
  • Establish or adjust prices for piecework operations for new or changed parts and/or assemblies and processes using historical data, stopwatch time study method, and estimation using job experience.
  • Analyze manufacturing processes to look for more efficient methods.
  • Anticipates challenges and recommends improvements to products, processes or service improvements.
  • Periodically act as a lead, coordinating and facilitating the work of others.
  • Engaged or willingness to be engaged in Continuous Improvement concepts and activities.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School education or equivalent and 7+ years of relevant experience. Technical training/education is desirable with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Must be able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Must have a general knowledgeable of the processes, machines and equipment in the Consumable Division.
  • Must have an in-depth knowledge of the processes, machines, and equipment in the Consumable Division related to the specific job.
  • Must be able to run production equipment where applicable.
  • Must be able to understand and interpret the specifications and procedures related to this job.
  • Must be able to follow detailed instructions and maintain neat and accurate records
  • Must be or willing to become proficient in Excel, Word, Apriso, SAP and other software.
