Your Role:

MilliporeSigma Corporation is searching for a Business and Tech Development manager supporting our Life Science Chemistry initiative. You will identify and execute in-licensing opportunities with external partners in the identified LSC field of science (Biochemistry / Cheminformatics / Stable Isotopes / Bioactive Small Molecules for Drug Discovery). You will manage a broad network of researchers that are a productive source of new product and technology licenses from scientific journals, academic, industrial, and government laboratories, and/or technology transfer offices as well as internal stakeholders. You will independently assess and evaluate customer-relevant technology and new product opportunities, present to management and internal teams, drive discussions, to ensure seamless transition of opportunity to business development. Identify and communicate potential technology opportunities to internal stakeholders. Partner with product management & R&D to manage existing collaborative relationships and creation of new relationships.

You will manage processes and stakeholders for maximum efficiency. Manage own workload, including list of scientific journals, KOLs and consultants, startups, and conference network. Participate in out-licensing strategy and implementation to obtain greatest financial and strategic return for the company. Provide technical consulting and support to appropriate business segments. Utilize expertise primarily regarding own technical area or discipline, leverage scientific background to explain complex technical information to others internally earn and maintain knowledge of Merck KGaA capabilities for proper evaluation of strategic/ technical / cultural fit of product and technologies.

Open to any location, can be remote with close proximity to an airport.

Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ph.D. or equivalent experience in a scientific field or MBA with 10+ years of scientific experience

• 3+ years experience in sourcing or developing new products and technologies specific to the life science industry

• Demonstrated experience in negotiation and knowledge of basic contract language and contract negotiation

• Demonstrated knowledge of patenting process and intellectual property rights.

• Experience in negotiation and deal-making skills

• Open to travel, including international, up to 40% of time (when safe)

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2+ years experience in working with scientific researchers

• Experience working within a matrixed environment

• Strong business acumen and customer orientation

• Strong networking and intelligence gathering skills

• Excellence in problem resolution skills, able to overcome barriers to success through complex and self-initiated problem-solving skills

• Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and multitask
