Summary Statement

Are you seeking an opportunity to make a difference in your community? Your time could have a serious impact on the life of a local teen. The City of Boise is searching for outgoing and friendly individuals to partner with our Parks and Recreation Department. The Youth/Teen Outreach Leader directly engages the teenage community of the City of Boise through programs and discussions at the city's school-based community centers .
This position:

  • Supervises youth (grades 6-12) in afterschool recreation programs and activities at one of the city's school-based community centers
  • Assists staff and program supervisor with the operation of teen recreation program activities
  • Works independently with limited supervision
  • Is open to all interested persons age 18 and older
  • Is designated as At-Will

Essential Functions

Ensures the safety and well-being of all community center afterschool participants and staff. (25%)

Encourages and engages youths in a variety of indoor and outdoor group recreational activities such as basketball, tag and tetherball. (30%)

Prepares materials and supplies for youth arts and crafts projects and assists participants when necessary. (30%)

Makes sure equipment and supplies are in good working order and notifies supervisor when items need repair or replacement. (15%)

Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time. Total Percentage = 100%

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
  • Working knowledge of computer software such as Word and Excel as well as internet skills
Ability
  • Interact with the public and co-workers in a friendly and professional manner
  • Demonstrate effective verbal communication skills
  • Display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of city employees, the general public, and other organizations
  • Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance
  • Complete assignments in a timely fashion, understand and comply with all rules, policies, and regulations
  • Maintain prompt and regular attendance
  • Perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
  • One year of experience supervising youths and teens
  • Current certification in First Aid/CPR
Special Requirements
Applicants must be able to pass:

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is always lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds and frequently lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds. Also, the employee is always pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds and frequently pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds. The noise level is always moderate. Work includes the sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, run, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach and grasp. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions and outdoor weather conditions.
This position works: afternoons/evenings and some weekends
