Temporary Full-Time Assistant Professor in Chemistry & Biochemistry

INTRODUCTION/POSITION: The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (https://www.chem.udel.edu/), in the College of Arts and Sciences, invites applications for two open temporary assistant professor positions in Chemistry and Biochemistry, starting August 16, 2023. These positions offer a strong, supportive setting for a teaching-intensive role in the environment of an active research department with robust undergraduate and graduate programs. The successful candidate will have expertise in teaching introductory chemistry classes to chemistry and biochemistry majors and non-majors, including core concepts in introductory chemistry. In addition, the ability to teach undergraduate courses focused in analytical and/or inorganic chemistry is preferable. We seek to enhance both the breadth of chemistry education in our department and the diversity of our faculty. QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: We are seeking exceptional candidates that have completed a doctoral or equivalent degree in chemistry or a related field, prior to appointment, and have significant teaching interest and experience. The successful candidates will have expertise in teaching introductory-to-intermediate chemistry classes to chemistry and biochemistry majors and non-majors, including core concepts in introductory chemistry. Experience in teaching some or more of these concepts to upper-level students is preferred. Postdoctoral experience with publications in research or education is desirable, but not necessary. Demonstrable commitment to mentoring and promoting a diverse student population is highly desirable. Primary responsibilities of this teaching-intensive position include teaching introductory-to-intermediate level courses, development of curriculum, coordination of lectures with associated laboratory sections, and some administrative tasks. Temporary faculty have the opportunity to contribute to committees that support department functions and academic programs, as well as departmental teaching and research workshops, retreats, seminars, etc. The successful candidates are primarily expected to excel at teaching and mentoring students who are broadly diverse in regards to race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation.
DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY AT UD: The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Delaware (https://www.chem.udel.edu/) is within the College of Arts and Sciences and serves as home for approximately 30 research faculty, nearly 200 PhD candidates, dozens of undergraduate researchers, and approximately 250 undergraduate majors. Upon joining the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, the successful candidate will work among a dynamic faculty to deepen the Department's world class research and educational programs spanning a wide-variety of areas chemistry and related scientific disciplines. Undergraduates have opportunities to participate in peer-mentoring programs for courses, as well as in research experiences in laboratories, and are mentored by graduate students and faculty. The University offers a highly interactive multidisciplinary scientific and educational environment with the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTAL) and support from UD Academic Technology Services (ATS).
