The Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science and the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program (DPT) at the University of Vermont (UVM) invite applications for a 9 month tenure-track assistant professor with extramural funding potential.Successful candidates will be physical therapists who hold a research intensive academic doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, EdD, DSc) and who have or are eligible for licensure in the state of Vermont. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed post-doctoral fellowship training; however, all qualified applicants are welcome to apply. Candidates are expected to have an interest in collaborative teamwork and be committed to scholarship, teaching, and service. Primary teaching responsibilities will be based on programmatic needs and content expertise. Individuals with demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion are desirable as establishing a diverse and inclusive culture is a priority at the University of Vermont.Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • A research intensive academic doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, etc).
  • A Physical Therapist who is licensed in any United States jurisdiction and eligible for licensure in Vermont.
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills.
The DPT faculty model academic, clinical and research expertise, in addition to innovative teaching and learning opportunities (www.uvm.edu/cnhs/rms/physical_therapy). The small class size of 40 students allows for a variety of teaching approaches between clinical and tenure-track faculty, as well as time for clinical and scholarly activity. The DPT program is an integral component of the Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science within the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at UVM. Uniquely positioned on the UVM main campus, along with our academic colleagues in Medicine, Health Sciences, Engineering, Nutrition, Education, and Psychology and our clinical colleagues at the University of Vermont Medical Center/Health Network, the College provides an exciting academic environment with excellent collaborative relationship potential for new faculty. The College fosters excellence in research, teaching and learning, interprofessional education, and practice collaborations within a stimulating academic medical center environment.The Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science is comprised of several related disciplines which includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, exercise science, physical activity and wellness science, integrative health, and emergency medicine programs. A Master's degree in Physical Activity and Wellness Science and an interprofessional Ph.D. in Interprofessional Health Sciences also contribute to our growing department. Departmental facilities include the Human Motion Analysis laboratory which houses multiple force plates, EMG, and three-dimensional biomechanical equipment for static and dynamic human movement research; a physical activity and exercise behavior lab; and a neurophysiology lab that utilizes TMS and EEG. Teaching space includes our recently renovated 2,700 sq-ft lab equipped with contemporary teaching technology. Students and faculty also have access to our state-of-the-art, collaborative, interprofessional Clinical Simulation Laboratory.
