Position Summary

ITT Goulds Pumps is looking for a Test Engineer to join their team in Seneca Falls, NY. The Test Engineer is responsible for production pump testing including safety, scheduling, test setups, testing, test reports, diagnostics, test personnel, test facilities. This role is also responsible for providing technical support for a $450M operation.
Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the product specialists during the quotation process for special testing. This includes evaluating existing capability, defining any gaps, providing technical solutions and associated cost and lead time effects.
  • Special test set ups include such items as flow, pressures, power supply, power measurement, piping, pump and or motor supports, couplings, special instrumentation.
  • Identify, procure and install any additional equipment required to conduct the testing to coincide with the test schedule.
  • Coordinate sequencing of pumps with assembly to optimize the build process and minimize test set ups.
  • Host customers or customer inspectors, review test plans.
  • Provide day to day direction to the testers. Ensure test personnel are capable of conducting the testing.
  • Evaluate abnormal mechanical performance (vibration, bearing temperatures, etc) and perform diagnostics (including rotor dynamic behavior) to determine cause.
  • Review test results to ensure conformance with contractual requirements and approve test results.
  • Define cause(s) of any performance deviations and provide written rework instructions. This may require evaluation and input from product engineering and or R&D engineering if necessary.
  • Review test results with customers or customer inspectors and explain conformance or deviations with contract, procedures and test codes as necessary.
  • Provide feedback to quality and product engineering on pumps that do not pass performance on the first test to improve first pass yield.
  • Maintain and upgrade test equipment to ensure it is safe, capable and in calibration.
  • Specify and procure equipment required for facility upgrades and expansions.
  • Be fluent in Hydraulic Institute, API and ISO test codes.
  • Create standard work for test set ups, instrumentation, testing, storage of tools and equipment.
  • Develop and maintain test procedures.
  • Train test personnel.
  • Measure and improve first time yield and provide feedback to quality and product engineering on missed tests.
  • Enlist internal and external resources as necessary for special testing or construction and installation of equipment.
  • Install, set up and program Labview, VFD controllers and other instrumentation as necessary.
Position Requirements
  • B.S. Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar
  • 10+ years of related experience
  • General knowledge of manufacturing processes, testing, and test codes
  • Knowledge of temperature, vibration and displacement instrumentation
  • Knowledge of low, medium and high voltage power supplies and VFD's and electrical codes.
  • Knowledge of machine rotor-dynamics and diagnostics.
