GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Visually inspect and ensure the safety of the equipment prior to beginning operations, throughout operations, and upon completion of all operations by means of carrying out all maintenance, inspections, and repairs on the tongs. Work locations include US offshore and land.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Execute tong and pumping operations
• Inspect, service, and maintain the tong
• Maintain the correct torque using the tong relief valve (Confirm torque value)
• Change out tong dies
• Assist in installing the tong arm and other mechanisms that hold the tong and ensure the equipment is properly secured and maintained, and ensure the height is correct for safe operation
• Rig up and rig down, offload, and spot equipment
• Operate lay-down systems, counterbalance winches, and lifting equipment
• Operate high pressure pump • Complete Critical Function Tests (CFT) as assigned
• Weigh mud and check viscosity, calculate pit volumes, and monitor returns from shakers
• Prepare for drilling / milling operations by checking valves alignment, ensuring equipment is not isolated, and assigning charging pumps, liner-cooling pumps, and pit agitators
• Nipple up and down, maintain and assist with BOP repairs.
• Use appropriate mixing procedures and arrange mud materials and chemicals for safe use
• Attend and take an active role in daily safety meetings
• Report all near misses and injuries immediately to the supervisor

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of mechanics of power tongs
• Maintain valid Well control Certification
• FAST Training • One year experience reading and understanding equipment certification and test charts
• HUET, Water Survival and Basic Firefighting
• Behavior Based Safety System and Risk Assessments
