Our Electricians are responsible for code compliance, troubleshooting, principles of electricity, installation, repair, and removal of electrical components.

The work schedule for this position is flexible and will include working evenings, weekends, and local travel, including overtime and on-call/call-backs as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Four years of journey-level trades experience in electrical and demonstrated knowledge, skills, or abilities in another skill not associated with the primary skill for assignment
  • Perform electrical journey-level installation, repair, and maintenance of generators, transformers, circuits, wiring, and other electrical systems and equipment per electrical codes, standards, and regulations within commercial and industrial settings
  • Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations, including following safety practices such as Lockout/Tagout, NFPA 70E, and proper use of PPE
  • Assist in routine planned maintenance and emergency repairs of physical plant equipment, including generators, panel boards, switchgear, MCCs, and ATSs
  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, or replace electrical equipment and devices, AC and DC circuits, electrical sensors and switches, motors, and safety circuits (120, 208, 240, 277, and 480V)
  • Maintain emergency power generators, fire, and other systems
  • Provide excellent customer service to faculty, staff, administrators, and contractors
  • Complete all tasks as scheduled, conduct basic inventory, and document all work progress in a computerized maintenance management system 
  • Design, plan, install and maintain industrial and commercial electrical systems within the college
  • Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing sufficient to receive and convey instructions to perform the duties of the job
  • Function as a team member, to include cross-training with other operations and maintenance staff
  • Drive a college vehicle between and within college campuses and pick-up parts from local vendors
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:
  • High School diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED) and
  • Completion of an approved technical/vocational/apprenticeship and
  • Possession of a valid Arizona Driver's License and demonstration of an acceptable driving record and
  • Four years of journey-level trades experience in electrical and
  • A Successful candidate must meet minimum medical testing requirements, as determined in a physical examination that includes a lift test.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience is sufficient to successfully perform the job's essential duties, such as those listed above.

The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Advanced skill in planning, installing, repairing, and maintaining various industrial and commercial electrical systems.
  • Advanced skill in installing, troubleshooting, repairing, or replacing electrical systems and equipment. 
  • Knowledge of blueprints, schematic drawings, and construction drawings.
  • Understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
  • Operational knowledge of hand tools and machine shop equipment, including the proper use of all test equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. 
  • Basic computer skills to use facilities and maintenance software, word processing, databases, email, and calendaring.
  • Basic inventory principles.
  • Method of estimating job materials and work hours.
Physical Requirements:
  • Positions in this class typically require: climbing, crawling, crouching, lifting, reaching, balancing, stooping, grasping, manual dexterity, kneeling, standing for prolonged periods, walking, pushing, pulling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
  • Heavy Work: Exerting force up to 100 pounds occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • Incumbents may be working in areas with moving mechanical parts, electrified equipment, vibrations, fumes, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inclement weather, low lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel.
Note: Employees would never be subjected to some of these parameters. However, they would need to be aware of their surroundings and be required to take proper precautions. 
  •  The job requires Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e., safety shoes and respirator.
