The TransportationManager supports operations by providing store delivery scheduleupdates and changes across Supply Chain on a regular and seasonal basis. Thisrole is responsible for the coordination and scheduling of all Smart &Final and Mexico stores and consistently considers budget, company policies,store location, volume, equipment availability, traffic patterns, and storerestrictions when scheduling. The Transportation Manager also provides supportand collaborates (when needed) with third party delivery carriers and senioroperational staff members regarding the overall delivery processes and issues. Thisis position is also responsible for managing store operations promotionaldistributions as well as, the communication of schedules between vendors, distributioncenter and transportation associates.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manages transportation devices and software; collects, organizes, collates, and disseminates data as directed.
  • Provides support and customer service to the store operations' and supply chain teams; 
  • Adheres to company policies and rules and remain in compliance with local ordinances and State/Federal laws and regulations.
  • Ensures staffing to provide timely production of payroll and periodic reporting.
  • Administers onboard recording systems to ensure time and data collection goals are met and drivers function within the company, State / Federal guidelines. 
  • Manages system performance issues and ongoing performance and implementation processes.
  • Participates in training of drivers regarding the onboard recording system(s).
  • Develops entire load planning tools (such as the WWL - Warehouse Work Load) to assist in the planning and the implementation of daily driver work schedules, drivers' bids and holiday schedules for distribution and transportation department associates and any / all third party distribution centers.
  • Coordinates operational needs and implements into the planning tools.
  • Provides support to the driver bid process, when requested.
  • Identifies and provides financial analysis regarding current and future transportation delivery and equipment operational costs.
  • Manages department reports to ensure operational efficiencies are achieved regarding outbound loads and cube reporting. 
  • Coordinates and collaborates with transportation, distribution center and store operations regarding special routing requests, additional and or reduced loads. 
  • Acts as primary decision maker regarding load requests.
  • Regularly analyzes and ensures promotional product is evenly distributed throughout the business.
  • Incorporates requests for the business needs and distribution centers' operational needs.
  • Provides management with analysis data / reports to ensure maximum department efficiency. Provides updated periodic reports and other reports as requested.
  • Participates in special projects, cost evaluations and recommendations as assigned.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Must be cognizant of current and future Federal and State DOT (Department of Transportation) HOS (Hours of Service) rules and how they relate to current Federal and State labor law and payroll rules. Must be able to apply these rules to the current telematics' provider software(s).
  • Familiarity with function and logic of telematics devices, including, but not exclusively, Omnitracs and Roadnet. 
  • Must be able to make day-to-day semi-autonomous decisions and coordinate meetings to support department and company objectives.
  • Must have excellent people management skills.
  • Must be able to work independently with good organizational skills.
  • Must have a minimum of intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access.
  • Must be able to review, analyze, use, critique, and train others on proposed or newly acquired software;
  • Additional general PC knowledge to include, but not exclusive to, all Microsoft Office program such as MS Word or Teams.

SUPERVISORY SKILLS

  • Oversees and supervises administrative personnel covering payroll, schedules, invoicing, driver data, etc.
  • Ensures proper staff levels are maintained and is responsible for hiring, orientation, safety, training, and discipline of administrative personnel.
  • Administers policies and procedures mandated by State/Federal regulations and ensure company policy compliance.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
BS degree or equivalent related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have workingknowledge of State / Federal and Department of Transportation rules andregulations.  Knowledge of Smart &Final dispatch and distribution operations desirable.
