Position Summary
Working under general supervision, the Transportation Operations Specialist II is responsible for planning, managing, and providing routine to moderately difficult transportation solutions in an efficient, timely, and economical manner. Responsibilities include booking shipments with the ocean carriers, load tendering to the truck carriers, monitoring shipments cost and transit time adherence. The position demonstrates knowledge and expertise in multiple lanes, can work through many challenges independently, and is comfortable suggesting solutions to non-standard problems while keeping all stakeholders informed.
Specific Responsibilities
Responsible for providing transportation solutions, communicating with multiple service providers and administering direction for operations. Responsibilities include:
• Provide routing instructions and ensure routing adherence
• Resolve operational issues timely and cost effectively
• Equipment management and maintenance
• Provide expedited transit options and coordinate expedited shipments
• Solicitation of freight quotes
Maintain and update systems, spreadsheets, databases, and other applications critical to operational visibility and awareness while ensuring accuracy.
• Maintain and update Transportation Management System (TMS)
• Monitor all external and internal reports for compliance and performance to management expectations and criteria.
Create bookings to reserve vessel space, obtain shipping documents, prepare and review required export documents. Validate and approve import pre-shipment documents (SAR) for container utilization, carrier, sailing schedule, ETA, and transit. Ensure compliance with Customs authorities and other regulatory bodies.
Coordinate with internal departments to keep key employees informed of shipment status and updates. Assist textile facilities, distribution centers, vendors, and customers with shipment tracking.
Stay current on Federal and State DOT regulations and US Customs export documentation requirements to maintain compliance.
Track freight variance and analyse cost variance versus Routing Guides and budget. Cost management and comparison, to include the detail that drove the decision to utilize a carrier(s) in a non-standard capacity. Coach and counsel associates to ensure growth and effective job performance.
