Position OverviewThe KU TRIO McNair Scholars Program offers a variety of services and resources that assist students with preparing for graduate school and successfully completing graduate applications. McNair Scholars are KU undergraduates who represent a variety of disciplines, but all share a common desire to conduct research and pursue a graduate degree. As part of KU's Center for Educational Opportunity Programs, our mission is to diversify the academic and research fields by preparing low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented KU undergraduate students for their Ph.D. Our dedicated and experienced staff provide a welcoming, supportive, and inspiring place for students who are aspiring to go to graduate school.

The ideal candidate will present a professional demeanor, have excellent verbal and written communication, and tutoring skills. The ability to work independently and pay attention to detail are important. Overall, we are seeking a team member with great interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to follow through with tutoring assignments.Job Description95% - Provide academic tutoring for McNair Scholars in various subjects and preparing for tutoring sessions.
5% - Documentation of tutoring sessions, monitor tutor progress and provide ongoing feedback to supervisor.Required Qualifications

  1. Must have 9-12 hours in subject area and a 3.0 GPA or higher.
  2. Strong Academic performance in the subject area, as evidenced in application materials.
  3. KU Student must be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours each semester during the academic year. Enrollment of one (1) hour during the summer session is required if the student was not enrolled in the previous spring or is not pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall term.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Taken the subject area and earned an "A"
  2. A strong faculty and supervisor recommendation.
  3. Prior knowledge or experience in tutoring diverse populations.
  4. Experience in communicating effectively with diverse populations.
