Job Summary:

Acts as primary, executive leader for ZOLL Resuscitation's scientific and clinical research departments. Identifies, develops, and manages pre-clinical and clinical research, and post market surveillance programs associated with new and existing ZOLL products. The ultimate goal for this position is to continue to drive ZOLL's position as a leader in innovative products and services over the long term.

Has overall responsibility to justify ZOLL's research investment in terms of business success, and to steer our research efforts into those areas which will make the biggest impact to our business. Providesconsultation and support to advanced development and product development groups regarding the set-up, implementation and data analysis of secondary clinical trials associated with ZOLL products. Makes significant contributions to the planning, specification, design, and validation of new ZOLL products. This position reports to the President of the Resuscitation Division.

Essential Functions:

  • Directs the activities ofone or more Scientists/Clinical Associates/Engineers responsible for the design, set-up, support, monitoring and data analysis of preclinical research, clinical trials, and post-market surveillance programs.
  • Oversees the design, execution, and data analysis of all clinical trials with particular emphasis on clinical appropriateness, scientific integrity, and regulatory compliance. Negotiates contracts with medical research organizations.
  • Ensure there is a pipeline of publications, presentations, lectures, and posters based on the results of the evaluation studies. Participate in developing, preparing, and presenting communication materials of study results.
  • Play a critical role in crafting a winning long-term strategy, based on developing clinically differentiated products that command a premium in the marketplace. Works directly with Advanced Development and Product Development teams to plan, specify, design, and validate new product concepts.
  • Develops and manages long term relationships with identified opinion leaders and thought leaders to achieve scientific, educational, and business goals; Supports the company's sales and marketing efforts by visiting key customers and participating in high level scientific meetings related to ZOLL's resuscitation technology.
  • Mentors and develops ZOLL's team of scientists and clinical researchers, and support personnel.
  • Executes plans for continuous improvement to create an environment in Clinical and Scientific Affairs that encourages and recognizes creativity, innovation, teamwork, risk taking and empowerment that fosters new product development.

Skills Requirements:
  • Demonstrated understanding of cardiac electrophysiology, defibrillation therapy, medical devices, and the health care industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with key customers and researchers.
  • Works independently to manage budgets and schedules. Develops and executes contingency plans.
  • Works independently but seeks input/feedback when needed.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills as demonstrated through presentations and publications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team building skills.
  • Business acumen.

Required/Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Master's degree in an appropriate discipline.
  • 10+ years' experience in a technical, scientific, or clinical research role in the medical device industry.
  • 5+ years' experience in the design and operation of experimental studies, clinical studies, and post-market-surveillance programs, including regulatory issues related to the conduct of these studies (IDE, IRB, and GLP compliance).
