One of the largest, oldest, and most comprehensive programs of its kind, the Borns Jewish Studies Program in the College of Arts and Sciences (The College) at Indiana University is a premier hub for Jewish Studies. Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Director, the Borns JSP advisory board, the College Advancement office, and the IU Foundation to plan and implement successful fundraising efforts
  • Regularly contacts, and maintains close relationships with, major donors
  • Maintains the Friends of the Borns Jewish Studies Program annual campaign
  • Works along with the Director and fiscal officer in the application of 86 endowed funds
  • Works closely alongside the College Advancement Office for the College of Arts and Sciences and with the President of the JSP advisory board
  • Along with the Director, oversees stewardship of a large group of major donors
  • Collaborates with the Director on annual campaign development, gift planning, and donor awards in conjunction with the IU Foundation
  • Sets the agenda for regular development meetings attended by Assistant Director; Director; President of the Advisory Board; Office of Advancement for the College of Arts and Sciences; and Associate VP of Gift Planning at the IU Foundation
  • Performs administration of scholarships, fellowships, conference funding, and prizes. Since 1999, this role has overseen the awarding of more than $2,400,000
  • Maintains a strong and enduring network of JSP alumni, including a job network
  • Sustains ongoing relationships with many of the 1,000 JSP alumni
  • Supervises content creation for the annual magazine
  • Plans long-term objectives and evaluation of multiple aspects of program's effectiveness
  • Initiates and actively participates in the development of the program, exercising professional judgment, and utilizing academic knowledge
  • Analyzes and acts to improve the success and growth of the program
  • Plays an integral role in all aspects of the program, including development, curriculum, faculty relations and communications, outreach to alumni, undergraduate and graduate recruitment, and supervision of all Jewish Studies programming
  • Supports and mentors Jewish Studies majors, Jewish sacred music students, Jewish Studies honors students, certificate students, minors, and Hebrew minor students
  • Offers multiple approaches to career support for Jewish Studies students
  • Oversees student programming. Developed and actively advises the Jewish Studies Student Association
  • Plays an integral role in assessing, recruiting for, and preparing students to study in Israel, especially for IU Overseas Study's program at the Rothberg International School at Hebrew University.
General Responsibilities
  • Plans, directs and implements programs or events, including the creation of materials to support these events.
  • Provides staff communications and serves as liaison to program participants, collaborators in other units, community partners, vendors and the public; approves staff purchase requests; arranges staff travel, accommodations, and research activities.
  • Provides mechanisms, training, and advice on a variety of issues such as budget management software and advanced strategies for timely spending of grant funds. May be responsible for meeting revenue targets.
  • Recruits, trains, directs, schedules, and evaluates faculty and staff partners, students and volunteers. Mentors, serves as a resource and provides guidance to team staff members as needed.
  • Researches available grants and works closely with managers to identify funding needs and potential sources, creates grant proposals that further advance support of the program and program participants; May be responsible for meeting revenue targets.
  • Constructs and administers program budgets and approves spending. Tracks progress on deliverables, analyzes data on projected spending and prepares reports for higher management and funding sources.
  • Keeps abreast of best practices to recommend policies and procedures that deliver a quality program experience.



  • Bachelor's degree
  • Master's degree, ideally in a field related to Jewish Studies

  • 2 years in a related field
  • 2 years of administrative experience in Jewish Studies or a related field

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
