The Managing Director, Financial Analytics role involves gathering and understanding FP&A business requirements; leading a team of analysts; organizing and leading inter-departmental meetings; leveraging Webster's data systems and tools; designing coding and maintaining data workflows; anticipating and resolving data challenges; creating user-friendly reports and dashboards; and clearly communicating results. The individual will collaborate with IT, Data Governance Team, Credit Risk, Finance, Model Risk Management, Auditors, Off-shore consultants, vendors, and LoB partners throughout the Bank. The scope includes working across one or more of our main subject areas: R&D, Quarterly CECL Production and Dual Risk Rating Underwriting models. The FAST MD role is right for you if you're a "hands-on" coder and analyst, who welcomes a challenge, takes ownership, possesses sound business judgement, and aspires to Analytics management.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Research, dimension and manage the scope, nature, business implications, workflow, calendar, data, personnel and time requirements for development, implementation, and maintenance of credit loss underwriting models to support the bank's stress-testing, regulatory reserving, and underwriting.
  • Personally participate in the development, coding, implementation, and maintenance of models.
  • Develop expert knowledge and experience with Webster's data systems and tools.
  • Maintain rigorous work papers during the model development process. Author reports documenting the design, development, testing and use of new models, and changes to existing models.
  • Develop strong relationships with Webster lines of business, Finance, Risk & IT partners, ensuring software development and support requirements are met.
  • Lead and/or participate in Model Risk Management, Executive Management, Audit, Regulatory, and inter-departmental strategic and tactical planning & progress meetings.
Required Skills & Experience
  • 5-10 years of modeling/analytical experience within a commercial bank or financial institution.
  • Solid knowledge of statistical theory, in particular general linear models, categorical data analysis, time-series estimation, algorithmic optimization, supervised and unsupervised machine learning.
  • Expert knowledge and skills in statistical programming (SAS, SQL, Python, R). Experience working with complex data structures. Ability to apply methods to real-world problems.
  • Strong ability with standard office software such as Excel/VBA, PowerPoint, Tableaux and Word.
  • Good business knowledge and familiarity with commercial and consumer banking products, operations, and processes.
  • Ingenuity, analytical thinking, resourceful, persistent, pragmatic, motivated and socially intelligent.
  • Time management skills are needed to prioritize multiple tasks.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Model development or validation experience with Credit Risk Underwriting models/scorecards.
  • Model development or validation experience with stress-testing/DFAST and/or CCAR/CECL
  • Experience managing a team of high-performing Data Scientists and/or Quantitative Analysts.
  • Experience with one or more cloud-based computing platforms: AWS, Azure, GCP.
  • Experience in designing efficient and robust data workflows.
  • Experience in developing constructive relationships with a wide range of different stakeholders.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, and ability to multitask.
  • Ability to independently gather data from various sources and conduct research.
  • Ability to think "out of the box" and provide suggestions on ways to improve the process.
Education
  • Doctorate or Masters' degree in econometrics, statistics, data analytics, computer science or other STEM fields (e.g., physics, math, engineering, etc.) Finance or Business MS/MBA with strong quantitative and programming background also acceptable.
The estimated salary range for this position is $160,000USD to $180,000USD. Actual salary may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive compensation.
